The cottage has been refurbished with environmental issues in mind.  Reclaimed slate and sandstone were used extensively together with timber double-glazing. All wood used came from sustainable stocks. To minimise energy loss, double thickness insulation completes the picture. Solar power panels are planned additions to the property in the short term. These will help provide the electricity used to run the underfloor heating laid throughout the cottage.

We supply you with recycled toilet paper and environmentally friendly washing powder, detergent and dishwasher tablets. Please be sure to use the dishwasher in the cottage. It, along with the other white goods in the kitchen, is an "A" rated appliance for energy-efficiency. Contrary to initial impressions, it takes less energy to run a fully loaded "A" rated dishwasher than to heat the water typically used to hand-wash the same quantity of dishes. There can be no better argument for avoiding a household chore.

In the summer months it is likely that the log-burning stove will be all that is required to keep the cottage warm and comfortable, such is the level of insulation incorporated within the property. This is a Carbon Zero energy source ie the growing tree has consumed as much CO2 as is released when its timber is burnt.
